L.I.BO

L.I.BO, which means "Livin in Borneo Sporenburg", was the name of an international competition that has held a design challenge. A difficult and arduous contest.
The competition in fact asked participants to complete a strip of land placed above the sea that runs along a very special area of the city of Amsterdam, the Borneo Sporenburg district. A degraded port area that was transformed through the master plan of the West 8 study (1993-1996) into a very exclusive residential area.
Each lot was designed by famous minds and signatures of contemporary architecture.
The project represents the will to define the limit between land and water, recalling the shape of the ship that by definition crosses the seas but must always return to the mainland.
The proposed "ship" respects the size limits of the adjacent buildings but has a unique feature compared to the others.
In fact, the house is slightly detached from the previous one, generating a small alley, which allows even those who do not live in one of the prestigious houses to enjoy the panoramic view that you have from inside one of the properties.
As for the finishing it was chosen old wood to recall an ancient ship, and like in an ancient ship, the openings can be closed by a play of shutters, like hatches.
